mobile phoneMobile phones are a form of distraction. And with their current facility to stay connected with the Internet, the world becomes much smaller and…… blah blah blah. I know all those. But practically, I don’t really like my mobile phone anymore.

I read many articles about how staying connected to the social media affects. I’m not referring to them. In fact, even if I quit using a mobile phone, I’ll still hold a device that gets me connected to the Internet because I have jobs that need me online. But I was talking about the voice call feature of the phone. Do you know if there’s any mobile phone (smartphone, to be more exact) that supports just SMS and Internet but no voice call? Because if there is, I’m gonna buy it tomorrow.

I don’t know why, but I don’t like talking over the phone. If you ever had to call me, you’d know the experience. I don’t usually pick up phone the first time it rings. Even I try every possible means to avoid making a phone call to someone — known or unknown — just because I don’t ever feel okay to talk over the phone.

Imagine this situation: I need to go someplace and I need to make a phone call. You know, just to tell them that I’m coming or ask them if it’s okay to come at that time. After reaching my destination, I have to make a second call to ask them for exact location. But I try my best to avoid that just by making a single call — after arriving at the spot or anywhere near. I don’t go out too much; just sometimes I get invites to special events such as dinner invite with Google, Ubuntu release party event or recently the U.S. Presidential Election Gala 2012 by the Embassy.

I don’t know how to describe this situation. Every time my phone rings up, I don’t feel like picking it up. Specially in the case of unknown numbers. Even I try to avoid making phone calls to customer support (ISP, phone, etc) my level best. I just shoot an email and expect the response to come back, underestimating the fact that email support isn’t very active in Bangladesh.

Do you have any similar feeling about talking over the phone? And no, it’s not just phone, it’s with any voice call. So when I say I don’t like talking over the phone, I also mean voice chat over the Internet.

Let me know what you think about this rather weird problem of mine.

  1. fantastic post, very informative. I wonder why the other specialists of
this sector don’t notice this. You should continue your writing. I am sure, you have a great readers’ base already!

  2. I have a Blackberry, I might upgrade to an iphone later this year, but I rarely use it for actual phone calls. I don’t really like talking on the phone. It’s mostly used for emails, texts, and telling the time.
